FAQs for Families

Does the entire family have to attend every family therapy session?

When working with families, I normally have the entire family attend together for the first few sessions. After initial assessment, I typically engage in one-on-one sessions with each member of the family, and then depending on ruptures, emotional bonds, and presenting issues, we work in various dyads and triads along with the entire family. Each week is different, and we usually plan as we go based on each week’s therapeutic work and what is going on within the family.

How long is family therapy?

This entirely depends on the nature of the issues, complexity, number of intersections, and emotional availability of various family members. Most of the families I treat are in therapy for at a minimum of 6 months.

Who pays for family therapy?

This is determined by the family, but I am able to split session fees across various members of the family.

Can we do telehealth family therapy?

Yes, I work with many California families in a telehealth setting. I definitely prefer to see families and couples in person at my office in Pasadena due to a level of heightened intimacy and capacity for connection, however, I’ve witnessed some incredible, life changing work done via telehealth with families.
